Just Watched: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
This English-language adaptation of the Swedish novel by Stieg Larsson follows a disgraced journalist, Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig), as he investigates the disappearance of a wealthy patriarch’s niece from 40 years ago. He is aided by the pierced, tattooed, punk computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). As they work together in the investigation, Blomkvist and Salander uncover immense corruption beyond anything they have ever imagined.
Saw this movie over the weekend. Never read the books, but I absolutely plan to now. Or, wait. Maybe not? I loved the suspense of the movie and not knowing what was coming next. Honestly, I couldn’t even remember seeing a trailer for it recently, so I went in blind, with really not expectations. The movie was fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. (Although, anyone who has seen the movie will understand when I say things that have been seen cannot be unseen…)
Would highly recommend seeing the movie. And debating waiting to read the books after the other movies or before. I enjoyed the suspense, but want to get a sense of the writer. Though, I’ve read that this movie stayed truer to the novel than the Swedish adaptation. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig’s performances were amazing, too.
Oh, random thought.. WTF was up with that title sequence at the beginning? Seemed to have no reflection of the movie whatsoever. Just weird.
