Enter to Win Photoshop for FREE for life →
Possibly legit, possibly sort of not? But the possibility of free Photoshop is nothing to sneeze at.

The Grid System →
“The grid system is an aid, not a guarantee. It permits a number of possible uses and each designer can look for a solution appropriate to his personal style. But one must learn how to use the grid; it is an art that requires practice.” — Josef Müller-Brockmann

AIGA urges the Obama 2012 campaign to reconsider... →
(via gobananna) A great letter by AIGA to Obama 2012 campaign regarding that Art Works poster contest. As a designer, it angers me to see people taking advantage of other designers and suckering them into doing spec work (see: 99designs and Moleskine). To the many professional designers who actually depend on getting paid for their designs to make a living this is a huge kick in the ass. It...

APPLE CUSTOMER SERVICE: GOOD AS USUAL
Time for another one of those fun customer service reviews — this time, it’s Apple. And this time, I’m not bitching about my faulty logic board or the problems of a friend. About a week ago I posted here asking for any advice on getting the screen fixed on an iPhone 4, but to no avail. But I wasn’t going to let that stop me, and did my own hardcore research on the most treasured...

Monday Morning Meetings..
Seriously. They suck. And I was dreading it last night because it just puts a damper on my whole day. It was for 9:30am — what an awful way to start the work week. And then the client comes in and says “Oh, and Line says hi!” and it took me a minute, and than I remembered my aunt works with the client. And all was well. She was really nice and the meeting went smoothly. So now it...

Thoughts on tumblr.
(via typethatilike) There is a hell of a lot of shockingly awful blogs on tumblr. I would say at least 90% are just weird kids posting shit content whilst trying to look cool. This makes the decent blogs stand out from the rest, here are some of my favourites: the-pool.tumblr.com legitimusmaximus.tumblr.com theoinglis.tumblr.com nikf.org ipen.tumblr.com iloveligatures.tumblr.com Rob. ...

AntiSpec: Moleskine Crowdsourcing for New Logo →
Aaaaaand boycott. Their response on Facebook is laughable. Whoever is running their marketing and PR should understand first and foremost how much it pisses designers off to hear about big companies crowdsourcing and being cheap douchebags.

alfadark replied to your photo: Appropriate gif is appropriate. Let me explain… Nice! What’s the company? I’ll tell on Saturday and also regale you with the story of how it came to be. I will say this, Skype is both a blessing and a curse. More so a curse when you are expecting just a phone call and not video where you have to look like a presentable human being. Enter...

Fuck! It's even true in real life.
Not just university. Printers are still the fucking bane of all humanity. And, more specifically, the bane of every graphic designer. I liked printing much better when my friend worked at the studio I went to get my stuff printed. Dealing with a client’s preferred printer is just frustrating.

lakeeffectkid replied to your post: “Whoever did these files was a complete moron.” dude I feel your pain. a few weeks ago at work i had to edit an 80 page document that had been set up by the last designer with no paragraph styles, no character styles, no master pages, no bleed. argh!! Ha! I know what you mean. I’ve been cleaning up the messes left by the old junior designer...

"Whoever did these files was a complete moron."
Doing design work for someone who had a “designer” at one point and has their files. Everything looks okay, but holy fuck did this person not understand how to make a working file. Everything is just one big clusterfuck. Also, who puts a 0.35 rule on a light font? Just fucking use the regular version. It has the exact same effect in this case.

gobananna replied to your post: SUNNOVABITCH My card was used earlier this year to pay off another credit card for $700. I had to spend a good deal of time convincing my bank that yes, I AM sure that’s not my card considering I only have the one that got scammed. Huge pain in the ass. Apparently they have to send me a piece of paper saying I didn’t make the charge, which I have to sign...

SUNNOVABITCH
God-fucking-damnit! Last year (or two years ago? I can’t remember) my fucking debit card got skimmed. Okay, no big deal, the charges were reversed and they sent me a new card with a chip like I should have had. Now, my fucking credit card WITH a chip got used for some big-ass bogus purchase. WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF THE CHIP?! It still gets fucking used! Also, having someone who...
